Cagey Chioce

Its becoming clear how the SCOTUS choices must have worked. Roberts is a home run intellectually and a golden boy legally. Bush probably reluctantly agreed, if he got to pick the next nominee. So he pick Miers, a crony yes-women pretty much guaranteed to vote the fundamentalist Christian line.

Bush is so pubescent in his choices, no? First, he allows the pretty boy with the killer legal pedigree in because R-o-v-e said it was the thing to do. But then, he stomps his feet and whines, and nominates Miers who resembles his mother.

Then he has a press conference where he petulantly speaks about his choices. What a child.

Don't worry conservatives, Miers will vote to throw teens and doctors in Federal prison for having and performing abortions and vote yes on the other crap you want to make America into the great, homo-free Christian Nation your so strongly desire.

Actually, now I see Miers is the perfect choice. The Dems won't fight her nomination for two reasons:

First, if they do and kill her nomination, we all know the next pick will be some rightwing, Jesus-loving nut job looking to overturn the Establishment Clause and the Dems will have used all their bullets fighting Miers.

Second, the fundamentalists get what they want out of Miers already, someone who will vote with Nino and Clarence lock step. She's only one vote and no one is expecting her to produce great legal agreements, only to vote as instructed.

Strategy-wise its a brilliant choice. The Dems are hamstrung.

If Bush had chosen a hardliner, the Dems would have filibustered and made a large mess, then he would have been forced to make a third choice putting the Dems in the driver seat. With Miers, the base gets what it wants, and the Dems can't fight her.

Hmmm, while I thought Roberts was an excellent choice for the country even as a conservative, I see Miers is a return to Bush's old ways.

God, I hope he doesn't get a third.
